Context

Why it matters

A reset gives heavy Codex users back their full allowance early, and repeated resets have become a regular part of OpenAI's pitch to developers.

This is a first hand post from Tibo, who leads Codex at OpenAI, as part of a daily series he calls a 28 day push. The post does not say which plans are covered, and OpenAI has not published separate release notes for it.

Deep dive

On October 17, Tibo posted: Day 13/ Le limit reset. The attached image is an anime style illustration of a crowned figure holding out a glowing card reading Le Limit Reset.

In a reply sixteen seconds later, he added that the reset is landing sometime today by EOD PST, meaning by the end of the day Pacific time. He did not say which plans or which limits are included.

A usage limit reset restores users' allowance before the normal period ends, so people who have run low can keep working. Tibo announced another global reset of Codex usage limits on Day 10, as covered in the October 15 deck.

Day 12, posted on October 16, did not include a reset. Instead, Tibo said OpenAI had made improvements to Codex and Work that increase the effective usage people get, by reusing context across subagents, keeping context cached longer and improving request routing.

Earlier on October 17, Tibo replied to a fan's wishlist that he was working on two of the items, which included removing the five hour limit for Plus users. He did not say whether today's reset relates to that list.

What to expect next

Watch whether the reset arrives by the end of the day Pacific time as Tibo said, and whether users on all plans see their limits restored.

Also watch the remaining days of Tibo's 28 day push for more resets or lasting changes to limits, including the two wishlist items he said he is working on. How often OpenAI resets limits may shape whether developers stay with Codex or move to rivals such as Claude Code.
