A Claude Code user says he now hits the limits of two Max subscriptions within three days, weeks after Opus 5.5 felt almost unlimited

When Anthropic launched Opus 5.5, Claude Code felt almost unlimited. The model was so good I stopped using my $200 Codex plan entirely. A few weeks later, I have two Claude Code Max subscriptions and hit the usage limit on both within 3 days. Crazy how quickly that changed.

Context

Why it matters

Heavy users' complaints about limits signal how expensive frontier coding agents are to run and how pricing is shifting.

This is one user's account. Anthropic has not commented, and the post is separate from the Codex usage bug covered in this deck.

Deep dive

On October 20, Marouane Lamharzi Alaoui posted that when Anthropic launched Opus 5.5, Claude Code felt almost unlimited, and that the model was so good he stopped using his $200 Codex plan entirely.

A few weeks later, he said, he has two Claude Code Max subscriptions and hit the usage limit on both within three days. Crazy how quickly that changed, he wrote.

He did not say how his usage changed over that time, whether he was running more agents in parallel, or whether Anthropic changed its limits. Without that, it is unclear whether limits tightened or his use grew. Max is Claude's most expensive consumer plan.

The post drew wide attention among developers, many of whom compare usage limits across Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. On the same day, OpenAI's Tibo said a bug had applied the wrong usage limits to about 40,000 Codex accounts, a separate issue covered elsewhere in this deck.

Anthropic has not commented on the post, and the claim reflects one user's experience.

What to expect next

Watch for Anthropic to explain any changes to Claude Code usage limits, and for more users to report similar experiences or the opposite. Competition on limits between Claude Code and Codex may push both companies to adjust plans. Also watch whether Anthropic introduces higher tiers for heavy users. Usage reports from other heavy users will help show whether this is a wider trend or one person's pattern of use.
