Context
A small startup competing with OpenAI and Google on image quality gives creators more choice of top image models.
Krea is a creative AI startup that opened a beta of Krea 3, its image editing model, on October 15, as covered in this deck. The rankings come from public leaderboards, but this post is Krea's own promotion of them.
Deep dive
On October 20, Krea posted that Krea 3 has made it to the top of image arenas. It said the Fast version pushes the Pareto curve of speed and quality, meaning no other model is both faster and better, and that Ultra ranks fourth, only surpassed by OpenAI models. It called itself the only company valued under $1 trillion in the top 10.
The video shows the leaderboards it means. On Arena, Krea 3 Ultra is fourth with a score of 1435, behind three OpenAI models led by GPT Image 2.5 at 1518, and just ahead of Google's Nano Banana 2.1 at 1432. On Artificial Analysis it is also fourth, at 1151, again behind three OpenAI entries. On Design Arena the table shows it in seventh place at 1298, even though the screen is titled Top 4.
Arena scores are based on people voting between pairs of images, so close scores like 1435 and 1432 are within the usual margin between neighbors. The screenshots show image editing leaderboards, which fits Krea 3's focus on editing.
Krea did not give its own speed figures in the post. Its earlier beta announcement said Krea 3 makes 2K edits in under 8 seconds.
What to expect next
Watch whether Krea 3 holds its places as more votes come in and as rivals such as Google and OpenAI release new image models. Krea's claim that Fast leads on speed and quality together will be tested by independent speed measurements. Also watch for wider availability beyond the beta and for pricing, which will decide how many creators switch to it.
