Context

Why it matters

Resets give paying users back their full Codex allowance early, and their frequency has become part of how OpenAI competes for developers with Anthropic's Claude Code.

Tibo leads Codex at OpenAI and has been posting daily updates during what he calls a 28 day push. A reset refills users' Codex usage limits before the normal period ends.

Deep dive

Early on October 20, Tibo posted: Day 15/ Nevermind, we're still cooking... and reset. Enjoy. He was quoting his own post from the afternoon before, Day 15/ We're cooked, which itself quoted OpenAI Developers' livestream about what the team is building with Codex. That first post did not mention a reset.

The new post reads as an announcement that Codex usage limits have been reset again. Unofficial trackers that follow his posts, such as recodex.lol, logged it as a reset at 2:33 AM Eastern time. He did not say which plans were covered or why this reset came now, and he gave no new feature with it.

This is the latest in a run of resets during his push. He announced global resets on Day 10, covered in the October 15 deck, and on Day 13, posted on October 17. On October 18 he joked that people had escaped the timeline and were asking him for resets on the street, and said he would make little cards to hand out.

Resets matter to heavy users because Codex limits are measured over five hour and weekly windows, so a reset lets people who have run out keep working right away. OpenAI has not said how many more are planned, and the trackers note that future resets are not guaranteed.

What to expect next

Watch whether Tibo keeps announcing resets during the rest of his 28 day push, and whether OpenAI changes the limits themselves rather than resetting them. Frequent resets suggest OpenAI has spare capacity or wants to keep developers from moving to Claude Code. Also watch whether OpenAI expands options that trackers describe, such as resets users can save or buy, which would turn this habit into a product.
