OpenAI rolls out GPT Live 1.1 for voice in ChatGPT and Codex, with new voices in six languages and better accents
New voices. Better accents. And less "checking..." GPT-Live-1.1 brings these updates to Voice in ChatGPT, Codex, and dots, with new voices in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean, and Japanese. Rolling out today to all users. Coming soon to the API.

Context
Voice is becoming a main way people use ChatGPT and agents like Codex, so better accents and fewer pauses matter for millions of daily users.
This is a first hand launch post from OpenAI. Its system card says the new model mostly matches its predecessor on safety tests, with some statistically significant regressions in a few categories.
Deep dive
On October 15, OpenAI posted: New voices. Better accents. And less checking. It said GPT Live 1.1 brings these updates to Voice in ChatGPT, Codex and dots, with new voices in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean and Japanese, rolling out that day to all users and coming soon to the API.
OpenAI's system card describes GPT Live 1.1 and a smaller GPT Live 1.1 Quip as full duplex voice models, meaning they listen and respond continuously and can follow pauses and interruptions. It says GPT Live 1.1 is the default voice model for Plus and higher tiers, including in Codex and dots, while Quip is the default for others.
The system card says the models perform close to parity with their predecessors on safety evaluations, but that GPT Live 1.1 shows statistically significant regressions on sexual content, mental health, emotional reliance and gore categories compared with GPT Live 1 in some tests, and that more research is needed.
OpenAI's help center lists usage limits by plan, from limited Quip access on the free tier to unlimited GPT Live 1.1 on the $200 Pro plan.
What to expect next
Watch for API availability and pricing for GPT Live 1.1, which would let developers build voice agents on it.
Also watch user reports on whether the new accents and fewer pauses hold up in daily use, and whether OpenAI addresses the safety regressions its own system card flagged in a later update. Competing voice launches from Google and others will show whether OpenAI keeps its lead in this area.
