Elon Musk says SpaceX will make users whole if Grok Bot makes a purchase mistake or leaks their card
This works well. If Grok @Bot makes a mistake with a purchase or leaks your card (never happened yet), SpaceX will make you whole.
Context
Promising to cover losses from an agent's purchases addresses one of the biggest worries about letting AI spend money, as some retailers push back on shopping agents.
This is a first hand promise from Elon Musk, who leads SpaceX, the company behind Grok Bot, but the post gives no terms, limits or claims process. His parenthetical that a leak has never happened is his own claim. It came hours after Nic Cruz Patane posted that Amazon was blocking his Grok Bot as an unauthorized AI agent, to which Musk replied that users can buy elsewhere.

Deep dive
On October 15, Elon Musk posted: This works well. If Grok Bot makes a mistake with a purchase or leaks your card (never happened yet), SpaceX will make you whole.
He was quoting XFreeze, who wrote that Grok Bot booked a flight for him that day. XFreeze said the process was really easy, that he sent a photo of his credit card and the bot did the entire process, that the airline website had been confusing the last time he booked, and that he received a booking confirmation.
Musk did not say how users would claim compensation, whether there are limits, or whether the promise covers mistakes such as wrong dates as well as fraud. Sending a photo of a full credit card to any chat service carries its own risk, and the post does not describe how Grok Bot stores card details.
The promise came a few hours after Nic Cruz Patane posted that Amazon showed his Grok Bot a message saying continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use, and that his bots could no longer access Amazon. Musk replied that users can ask Grok Bot to buy what they want someplace else and get a better deal. GeekWire reported that Amazon has also cut off Meta's Muse agent, saying it did not identify itself while shopping.
Later on October 15, Musk quoted a user who said one of his Grok Bots only handles Amazon returns and suggested an X Shop, replying: Maybe we should start a competitor to Amazon, with a thinking emoji. He gave no plan or details.
What to expect next
Watch whether SpaceX publishes formal terms for the guarantee, including limits, eligible purchases and how to file a claim.
Also watch whether Amazon and other retailers keep blocking Grok Bot or work out rules for agents that identify themselves, and whether card networks or regulators weigh in on agents handling payment details for users. Any first reported claim under the promise would be a key test.
