Context

Why it matters

Projects, where one Claude conversation splits work into parallel threads and keeps going when you leave, is now open to everyone who signed up on Anthropic's two main paid personal plans.

Anthropic launched Projects in Claude Code on desktop and web in late September as a beta for select users, with a waitlist for other Pro and Max subscribers. A project is one conversation with Claude that splits the work into threads, runs them as parallel sessions and passes context between them. Anthropic later added local support so threads can run on the user's own machine.

Deep dive

Anthropic's developer account said on October 9 that it had let in every Pro and Max user from the Claude Code Projects waitlist, and shared a four minute walkthrough for people new to the feature.

According to Anthropic's Claude Code docs, a project is a single ongoing conversation in which Claude decides how to break up the work, starts threads that run as full sessions, reads what they report and decides what to do next. The docs say there is no fixed number of threads and that Claude starts as many as the work calls for, with an enforced limit of 200 new threads per day across a user's projects.

The docs warn that a project uses plan limits faster than a single session, especially on Pro, because each running thread is a full session and the coordinating conversation also uses tokens. They suggest choosing smaller models or lower effort for threads, or asking Claude to run fewer threads at once, to stretch usage.

Anthropic's earlier blog post said updated projects would come to the rest of Claude, and to Team and Enterprise plans, after the Claude Code rollout. Existing projects on Pro and Max keep working and will be upgraded as the rollout expands to chat and Cowork, according to the post.

What to expect next

Watch for the next steps Anthropic laid out: updated projects across the rest of Claude, then Team and Enterprise plans, and the migration of existing projects in chat and Cowork.

Also watch usage complaints. With the waitlist cleared, many more Pro users can now run parallel threads, and Anthropic's own docs say that can hit limits sooner. Any change to limits or pricing for heavy project use would matter to those users.
