Context

Why it matters

The official Grok Imagine account lists the model at $0.02 to $0.14 per second, and SpaceXAI's docs call it the lowest priced Imagine video model.

Grok Imagine posted on October 8 that Video 1.5 Lite is live in the Grok Imagine API for text to video and image to video. The post lists $0.02 per second at 480p, $0.03 at 720p and $0.14 at 1080p. SpaceXAI's video docs list the same three rates for the model grok imagine video 1.5 lite.

Deep dive

The Grok Imagine account calls Video 1.5 Lite the new workhorse for text to video and image to video, and it publishes three prices: $0.02 per second at 480p, $0.03 at 720p and $0.14 at 1080p. The preview frame of the post's video reads "Get cheaper videos with Video 1.5."

SpaceXAI's docs, which list an update date of October 7, match those rates for grok imagine video 1.5 lite and describe it as the lowest price per second in the Imagine video lineup. They say 1080p on the Lite model is upscaled from 720p. The fuller grok imagine video 1.5 model, by the same page, renders 1080p natively and is listed at $0.08, $0.14 and $0.25 per second for 480p, 720p and 1080p. Docs say Lite clips run from 1 to 15 seconds, accept the same wide set of aspect ratios as the fuller model, and include generated audio. Image input is listed at $0.01 per image on the pricing page.

The overview table shows limits that the post does not mention. Lite has no column for reference images, voice references, or pinned first and last frames. Those are listed for grok imagine video 1.5, which the docs say can take up to 14 reference images and 3 voice references. A separate grok imagine video model is listed for editing and extending clips, at $0.05 and $0.07 per second, and is not what this post announces.

The post says the model is in the API. The docs pages reviewed here do not say it is inside the Grok consumer apps.

What to expect next

The open questions are whether the published rates stay in place, and whether 1080p that the docs describe as upscaled from 720p is enough for people who now pay the higher native 1.5 rate. SpaceXAI does not, on these pages, give a date for putting Lite in the Grok apps.

Developers also still need the image input charge, $0.01 per image, on top of the per second rate when they start from a still. The post's prices are for output seconds only.
