Context

Why it matters

Claude can now build dashboards that stay current from a company's data platform and short, editable animations, pushing Anthropic further into analytics and presentation work.

Anthropic announced the two features on October 8 on its Claude blog, alongside taking Docs, Slides and Design out of beta on every plan, including Free. Docs, Slides and Design have worked inside Claude conversations since September 16, and Anthropic says people have made more than 45 million docs, decks and designs since then. The New Stack notes the launch comes about a month after OpenAI gave ChatGPT Work a Data agent that also builds dashboards.

Deep dive

According to Anthropic, Claude Dashboards connects to a data platform such as Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks or Snowflake, and works with other connectors such as Salesforce. Users ask a question in plain language, and Claude pulls the answer, builds the dashboard and keeps it current as the data changes. Each chart shows when its data was last refreshed, and clicking any number shows the query behind it, or users can ask Claude to explain it. Anthropic says Dashboards suits quick, exploratory questions and works alongside BI tools: a dashboard can be sent to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog or Sigma, with Looker, monday.com and Tableau coming soon.

Claude Motion turns a prompt into an animation that plays like a short video, such as a 30 second explainer of a quarterly report or motion added to a chart in a board deck. Anthropic says Claude writes code that animates the user's text, charts, shapes and images, so any word, number or timing can be changed, and that Motion does not use a video generation model, so there is no generated footage and there are no AI generated people. Animations can be edited, downloaded as MP4 files or opened in tools including Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway.

Dashboards is in beta on paid plans, and Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise. For Enterprise organizations, both are off by default until an admin turns them on. Anthropic also says artifacts now support customer managed encryption keys, and that slides, designs, dashboards and animations can be shared outside an organization if an admin allows it.

What to expect next

Docs, Slides and Design turn on by default for Enterprise organizations on October 15, and the standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design stays open until December 14. Anthropic lists Looker, monday.com and Tableau exports for Dashboards, and Canva and Captions for Motion, as coming soon. The New Stack notes Anthropic has not said whose credentials refresh a shared dashboard or whether outside viewers see live data, details companies will need before connecting production data.
