SpaceXAI gives $1.5 million in Grok tokens to DHH's Omarchy Linux project

Thrilled to welcome @SpaceXAI as a Founding Corporate Patron for the Omacom Foundation. That's $1,500,000 in @grok tokens for the maintenance and development of Omarchy. Maybe soon they'll be beamed straight from orbit? Let's go 馃殌馃寱

Context

Why it matters

An AI lab is funding open source maintenance in model tokens, and Grok 4.7 will help power the project's automated code review agents.

Omarchy is a Linux desktop setup created by David Heinemeier Hansson, known as DHH, the creator of Ruby on Rails and CTO of 37signals. It is backed by the Omacom Foundation, which SpaceXAI is joining as a Founding Corporate Patron. The other founding corporate patrons named by the project are Meta Superintelligence Labs, DigitalOcean and Alibaba Cloud.

Deep dive

DHH announced the gift on X and in a post on the Omarchy site on October 8. SpaceXAI is donating $1.5 million in Grok tokens to the Omacom Foundation to speed up the agents and teams that build, review and fix Omarchy.

According to the announcement, Grok 4.7 and later models will help power the project's automated agents, including Omabot, which reviews incoming pull requests. The project says it is closing in on 7,000 pull requests from more than 550 contributors, and that every one deserves a proper look.

DHH wrote that every Omarchy team will be able to use the tokens, whether hunting bugs, polishing themes, porting to new hardware or trying new ideas. He also joked that the tokens may one day be beamed down from data centers in space.

The announcement says SpaceXAI's pledge brings the foundation's total backing to approximately $23.2 million, alongside Meta Superintelligence Labs, DigitalOcean and Alibaba Cloud. DHH said the money leaves more room to invest in people, infrastructure and the open source projects Omarchy relies on.

The post was the most liked AI related post in the morning scan of X.

What to expect next

The tokens will show up first in Omabot's review work, so watch for changes in how fast Omarchy pull requests are reviewed and merged.

Open questions include how token donations are accounted for compared with cash, whether other open source projects receive similar token grants from AI labs, and whether more founding patrons join the Omacom Foundation. DHH's public enthusiasm for AI assisted coding also makes Omarchy a visible test of agent driven maintenance.
