Anthropic Signs OneGov Agreement With the US General Services Administration Offering Claude at a 40 Percent Discount

We're expanding our partnership with @USGSA. Under a new OneGov agreement, we are bringing Claude to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments at 40% off.

Context

Why it matters

Slashing prices by 40 percent with zero minimum spend commitment across federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments removes procurement friction for public sector agencies adopting FedRAMP High and defense authorized Claude models.

Anthropic made Claude for Government generally available at the FedRAMP High authorization level on September 30, 2026, alongside existing FedRAMP High and Department of Defense Impact Level 4 and 5 authorizations on AWS GovCloud and Google Cloud Vertex AI. Public sector adoption has accelerated rapidly in 2026, with weekly active government users rising eightfold since February and federal civilian usage growing twentyfold year over year across roughly 500 agencies.

Deep dive

On October 27, Anthropic announced an expanded partnership with the US General Services Administration under a new OneGov agreement that provides a flat 40 percent discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API. Available immediately through the GSA Multiple Award Schedule for direct purchases and rolling out across cloud marketplace providers in the coming months, the agreement extends beyond federal agencies to cover state, local, tribal, and territorial governments nationwide.

Anthropic estimates the pricing terms will save US government organizations approximately 1 billion dollars in aggregate software spend. Crucially for smaller municipalities and budget constrained departments, the OneGov contract imposes no upfront minimum spend commitment, allowing agencies to pay strictly for consumed usage while accessing dedicated implementation support modeled on Anthropic's commercial enterprise programs.

In its announcement, Anthropic highlighted several public sector deployment benchmarks across the roughly 500 government bodies already using Claude. In Utah, 34 developers across 10 state agencies piloted Claude Code, with 80 percent reaching a working setup within 30 minutes and 71 percent saving more than 20 hours over four weeks. Other cited cases include a state Chief Information Officer whose team contained a ransomware attack in eight minutes instead of two to three days, a state IT developer who migrated nearly 900 API methods in two days rather than a month, and a federal security team that used Claude Mythos to uncover and patch a critical production takeover vulnerability in two days that a human penetration test had missed the prior month.

What to expect next

By extending the 40 percent OneGov discount to cloud marketplace procurement on Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI alongside upcoming FedRAMP 20x authorization for Claude Enterprise, Anthropic is positioning Claude as default software infrastructure across both federal civilian ministries and local municipalities.
