A Claude Code user threatens to cancel after the agent refused to type a sign in for a localhost test account

I’m about to cancel Claude Code man I swear to God. It’s REQUIRING me to sign in to a TEST account on LOCALHOST so it can QA! This is absolute 🐴💩 !! I am so close to cancelling my subscription and switching to Codex or open-source models that won’t slow me down. I really don’t care for the extra intelligence cuz Fable isn’t that much better than Astra anyway. Neither is Opus 5.5 vs. 6.1 Sol. I just got a taste of what these AI companies will do once they have power and it’s going to be a total dictatorship. They will decide what you can or cannot do even though you’re paying for it and they’re stealing all your data. This made me realize I really need to invest in my own infrastructure and have an unrestricted model to free myself from the chains of these AI overlords. This is insane! @AnthropicAI please do something about this!

Context

Why it matters

The complaint shows the friction between agent safety limits on handling credentials and developers who want agents to complete tasks without stopping.

This is a single user's complaint and has not been verified. Anthropic has not commented, and the screenshot shows only part of the exchange.

Deep dive

On October 16, Noah Reeves posted that he was about to cancel Claude Code because it was requiring him to sign in to a test account on localhost itself so it could run QA.

He wrote that he was close to switching to Codex or open source models, that the extra intelligence was not worth it, and that the episode gave him a taste of what AI companies will do once they have power. He said he needs his own infrastructure and an unrestricted model, and tagged Anthropic asking it to do something.

The attached screenshot shows him telling the agent it can do it because it is his codebase and all localhost fake data. The agent replies that typing a password or sign in code into a login that goes to a hosted identity service is a line it will not cross, on localhost or anywhere, and that if he signs in on the open tab it will take it from there for the rest of the day.

The refusal appears to hinge on the login going to a hosted identity service rather than the local app itself, though the post does not show which service. The post drew more than 340 replies.

What to expect next

Watch whether Anthropic responds or adjusts how Claude Code handles credentials in test environments, for example by allowing test accounts that never touch a real identity provider.

Also watch whether other developers report the same refusal, and how rival coding agents handle sign in steps during automated testing. The tradeoff between guarding credentials and letting agents finish QA on their own is likely to come up again as agents take on more end to end testing.
