Context

Why it matters

Letting coding agents produce shareable dashboards and reports pushes tools like Cursor beyond writing code into the reporting work teams usually do by hand.

This is a first hand post from Cursor. Its changelog lists the same feature in an entry dated October 13, so the post promotes an update released a few days earlier.

Deep dive

On October 16, Cursor posted that cloud agents can now build interactive canvases. It said users can ask for a dashboard or report while the agent works, then share the finished canvas with their team as a link.

The attached video, about 25 seconds long, opens on a title card reading New in Cursor, Canvas in Cloud. It shows a user asking a cloud agent to build a dashboard of app load performance, a share menu with an option for team members to view, and a dashboard of page load times and slowest routes with suggested fixes. The video labels the data as illustrative sample data.

Cursor's changelog entry dated October 13 says cloud agents can build canvases as part of their work, and also lists a beta Environments API and cloud environments that support up to 300 repositories and load large environments 5 times faster.

Cursor's documentation says a shared canvas is a read only live snapshot that teammates open in a browser. It says sharing requires a paid plan and a team, and admins can turn it off.

What to expect next

Watch whether teams start using agent built canvases in place of dashboards from dedicated tools, and whether Cursor adds editing or live data connections to shared canvases.

Also watch how rivals respond, since OpenAI's ChatGPT Space and Anthropic's Claude offer their own shared documents and artifacts. Uptake of the new Environments API will show how far companies are pushing cloud agents into their workflows.
