OpenAI upgrades GPT 6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT with faster responses, better tool use and parallel agents for Pro users
GPT-6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT got an upgrade with faster responses and improved use of plugins and tools. And now, multiple agents can tackle different parts of a task in parallel. You can follow each agent’s progress and open completed tasks to review their work. Now available to Pro users in the Chat tab.
Context
Running several agents in parallel inside ChatGPT lets one request split into many tasks, a step toward the agent style work rivals are also pushing.
This is a first hand post from OpenAI. The post was edited after publishing: the original version called the model GPT 6 Pro, and the current version says GPT 6 Astra Pro.
Deep dive
On October 16, OpenAI posted that GPT 6 Astra Pro in ChatGPT got an upgrade with faster responses and improved use of plugins and tools. It said multiple agents can now tackle different parts of a task in parallel, that users can follow each agent's progress and open completed tasks to review their work, and that the feature is available to Pro users in the Chat tab.
The post was first published at 4:00 PM ET with the name GPT 6 Pro, then edited about half an hour later to say GPT 6 Astra Pro, with the rest of the text unchanged.
OpenAI's help documentation describes GPT 6 Pro in the Chat tab as powered by GPT 6 Astra and says the parallel agents split independent parts of a task, with availability rolling out gradually and depending on plan, workspace settings and app version.
An OpenAI community forum post titled the upgrade day 12 of 28 days of quality of life improvements, linking it to the Codex lead's public 28 day push of resets and upgrades, covered in the October 15 deck on day 10.
What to expect next
Watch how well parallel agents handle real multi step tasks for Pro users and whether OpenAI brings the feature to Plus or business plans.
Also watch the remaining days of OpenAI's 28 day push for more upgrades, and how Anthropic and Google respond with their own parallel agent features in their chat apps. Usage limits for parallel agents will matter for heavy users.
