Nvidia says Synopsys, Cadence, Applied Materials, Lam Research and KLA are adopting its CUDA X libraries to speed up chip design and manufacturing
NVIDIA UNVEILS AI TOOLS TO TRANSFORM CHIP MANUFACTURING Nvidia ($NVDA ) is launching new CUDA-X AI tools to accelerate semiconductor design, manufacturing and factory automation. Major companies, including Synopsys, Cadence, Applied Materials, Lam Research and KLA, are adopting the technology, with Nvidia reporting speed improvements of up to 50x in selected workflows. The bigger picture: Nvidia is expanding beyond powering AI data centers to using AI to transform how semiconductors themselves are designed and manufactured.
Context
Nvidia is pushing its software deeper into how chips themselves are designed and made, with partners reporting large speedups in simulation and inspection.

Deep dive
On October 14, Walter Bloomberg posted that Nvidia is launching new CUDA X AI tools to accelerate semiconductor design, manufacturing and factory automation, with Synopsys, Cadence, Applied Materials, Lam Research and KLA adopting them and speedups of up to 50x in selected workflows.
Nvidia's press release says semiconductor leaders are adopting CUDA X libraries, including a new library called cuPotential that developers can use to build AI agents that simulate how atoms and molecules interact. Nvidia says cuPotential sped up already GPU optimized workflows by a further 2x to 3x in early testing.
The release lists partner results. Synopsys reported a potential 30x speedup on QuantumATK simulations and 12x on device benchmarks. Cadence said its AuraStack agent optimizes advanced packages for heat and stress 8x faster. Applied Materials cited up to 35x faster chamber simulations, Lam Research is targeting up to 30x for some etch modeling, and KLA reported 50x over earlier CPU versions with a new kernel.
Separately, Siemens announced on October 14 that pairing Nvidia's cuLitho with its Calibre software gives up to 12x faster full chip optical proximity correction.
The same day, Walter Bloomberg relayed a report from The Information that Nvidia and ChipAgents launched an evaluation for AI powered chip design. ChipAgents announced Build A Chip Bench, built with Nvidia, which tests agents from specification to a verified chip layout. It said tested agents passed functional checks on about 40% of tasks, but only about 10% met power, performance and area targets.
What to expect next
Watch whether these speedups show up in shorter chip development cycles and better fab yields, which partners have not yet quantified.
Also watch how Nvidia's growing role in chip design and manufacturing software affects its relationships with toolmakers and foundries, and whether rivals such as AMD offer comparable libraries to the same partners. Partner results at future SEMICON events will show progress.
