Exa, the search engine built for AI agents, passes $100 million in annualized revenue after growing about 10x a year for three years

Exa just passed $100m in annualized revenue. We've grown almost exactly 10x per year for 3 years. We now handle 2 billion requests a month from 200k+ teams. And it鈥檚 still so early: We predict agents will search 1000x more than humans by 2030. Agents don't search like humans. They write long, complex queries and want all the world's data, not just the web. We've spent 5 years building a search engine designed for them. We now serve personal agents, AI labs, coding agents, GTM agents, really any agent. Exa gives these agents access to 100s of billions of web documents and tons of proprietary data. Our customers are increasingly noticing that information is the bottleneck to agent performance. While the world seems close to perfect intelligence with models like Fable and Astra, we are very far from perfect information. To our small but legendary team, thank you for getting us here, from engineering to research to GTM to ops. To our customers, it is an honor to serve you. We have some exciting releases coming soon and can't wait to share them 馃

Why it matters

Exa's growth shows agents becoming a major new class of search customer, and supports its argument that access to information, not model intelligence, is now the bottleneck for agents.

Will Bryk is Exa's cofounder and CEO, so this is a first hand company claim and the revenue figure is unaudited. Exa raised an $85 million Series B led by Benchmark at a $700 million valuation in September 2025, according to Bryk's LinkedIn post at the time. Sacra estimated Exa's annualized revenue at about $10 million that month, consistent with roughly 10x growth since.

Deep dive

On October 13, Will Bryk posted: Exa just passed $100m in annualized revenue. He wrote that Exa has grown almost exactly 10x per year for three years and now handles 2 billion requests a month from more than 200,000 teams.

He predicted that agents will search 1,000 times more than humans by 2030, writing that agents don't search like humans: they write long, complex queries and want all the world's data, not just the web. He said Exa spent five years building a search engine designed for them, and now serves personal agents, AI labs, coding agents and go to market agents with access to hundreds of billions of web documents and proprietary data.

Bryk wrote that customers increasingly notice that information is the bottleneck to agent performance, and that while the world seems close to perfect intelligence with models like Fable and Astra, we are very far from perfect information. He said Exa has exciting releases coming soon.

The chart in the post shows monthly queries rising from near zero in 2024 to about 2 billion in September 2026. In 2025, Bryk said OpenAI's open source gpt oss models used Exa as their default search tool and that Cursor and Notion were customers.

What to expect next

Watch whether Exa raises new funding at a higher valuation on the back of this growth, and what the releases Bryk teased turn out to be.

Also watch competition from other search providers for agents, including Google, Brave and Perplexity's API, and whether AI labs build their own search for agents rather than buy it. Exa's prediction that agents will search 1,000 times more than humans by 2030 is a forecast, not a measurement.
