Sawyer Merritt says Grok Bot now works inside Tesla's Cybercab, and he used it to add laundry detergent to his Amazon cart by voice

You can now use Grok @Bot in a Tesla Cybercab. You just sign into Grok once, and your Bots will be available on all future rides, and automatically logged out when you exit the vehicle to maintain privacy. I tried it tonight by adding laundry detergent to my Amazon cart. It can also send emails, place your coffee order, manage your calendar, finances, or other tasks using just your voice in the robotaxi. On your next ride, you’ll automatically be signed in to all the apps you previously logged into as soon as you enter the vehicle.

Context

Why it matters

Robotaxi rides become time riders can spend on errands, which makes Tesla's vehicles a new surface for agents that act on a user's accounts.

Sawyer Merritt is a Tesla investor and news commentator on X. According to TeslaNorth, Tesla AI engineer Yun Ta Tsai announced on October 10 that Grok Bot is enabled on all Cybercabs and the rest of the Model Y robotaxi fleet. Grok Bot is the agent side of Grok that can carry out tasks using accounts a user connects.

Deep dive

Late on October 11, Sawyer Merritt posted that you can now use Grok Bot in a Tesla Cybercab. He said you sign into Grok once, your bots are available on all future rides, and you are automatically logged out when you exit the vehicle to maintain privacy. On your next ride, he said, you are signed back in to the apps you used before as soon as you get in.

Merritt said he tried it by adding laundry detergent to his Amazon cart, and that it can also send emails, place a coffee order, and manage your calendar, finances or other tasks by voice in the robotaxi. His video shows the car driving at night with the prompt Hey Grok.

TeslaNorth reported that the rollout followed a complaint from Tesla creator Dirty Tesla that riders could not reach their Grok Bots from inside a Cybercab, and that Tsai had replied it would be fixed soon in an upcoming update. Tsai then wrote that Grok Bot was enabled on all Cybercabs and the rest of the Model Y fleet and asked riders how it helps and what to improve.

Tesla has not published details on how account credentials are stored between rides.

What to expect next

Watch how Tesla and Musk's AI team handle security for riders' connected accounts in shared vehicles, including how the automatic sign in on a new ride verifies the rider's identity.

Also watch whether rides become a selling point for Grok Bot subscriptions, whether Tesla adds the feature to privately owned cars, and whether rival robotaxi operators such as Waymo add similar agents.
