Gavin Baker Says Texas Governor Elect Gina Hinojosa Will Let Already Permitted Data Centers Finish Into 2027 and 2028 (opens the post on X)

The governor-elect of Texas, Gina Hinojosa, has explicitly said that all currently permitted datacenters in Texas will be allowed to finish construction. This essentially covers all of the 2027 and likely well into 2028. She is going to pass laws that ensure that all *newly* permitted datacenters going forward for delivery in 2028/2029 will pay taxes, commit to no increase in power prices for consumers, don’t impact water availability for people, be constructed with union labor and give “Texans a seat at the table.” Sounds reasonable. She doesn’t want to lose a lot of good blue collar jobs and property taxes for small towns in rural Texas. Datacenter commentary starts at 6:30 in this interview. Also attaching her official campaign position from her website in the next post. Sidenote: After watching a bunch of her speeches and interviews, I do think she is a political talent and probably has a future in national politics.

Walter Bloomberg Relays CNBC Reporting That Moonshot Explored Renting Nvidia Blackwell Capacity in Europe (opens the post on X)

CHINESE AI LAB SEEKS NVIDIA BLACKWELL CHIPS THROUGH EUROPEAN DATA CENTERS China's Moonshot AI has reportedly explored renting Nvidia's advanced Blackwell computing capacity in Europe, potentially circumventing US restrictions on chip exports to China. According to CNBC, discussions included access to clusters of 8,000 or more Blackwell GPUs, with Moonshot potentially offering 30%–50% higher upfront payments than non-Chinese customers. US export controls restrict physical chip shipments to China, but remote access through overseas cloud providers remains a regulatory gap. Washington is considering legislation to close that loophole.

BREAKING: A mystery seller is trying to dump about $500 million in data center loans all at once, per Bloomberg, days after the midterms raised doubts about many projects. The anonymous seller is auctioning a dozen loans, including a $25 million piece of financing for a huge Stargate site in New Mexico, the joint project of OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle. Oracle has already sent that site’s developer a force majeure notice, a legal claim that events beyond its control may excuse it from its obligations.
